Tesla has been producing the rear-wheel-drive version of the Model Y with BYD batteries at its Berlin super factory in Germany. This is the first time Tesla Berlin Super Factory uses Chinese brand batteries, and is also the first electric car launched by Tesla in the European market with LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries.

As the prototypes of the razor-blade battery version of the Model Y for the German market begin to be delivered, users have already posted charging power and SOC data for the new model on the TFF forum, so let's take a look together. The new car still uses the same front and rear body die-casting technology, and the only difference seems to be the BYD blade battery. Although the battery capacity is lower than the long-range version and the performance version (IT House Note: RDW registration information shows that the BYD battery version has a capacity of 55kWh and a range of 440km), this new car has a very surprising performance in terms of charging.

The new car's peak power can be maintained in the 170kW+ range for a long time, and the rear section power is also higher than the CATL LFP version, which can also be charged for 15 minutes at 11%-71%.

For reference, the Model Y with Ningde's LFP battery performs similarly in the early stages of charging, but then the power drops rapidly, only remaining at around 110kW at 50%. The BYD blade battery can maintain power the of about 172kW to 50% power, and close to 90% when it is again close to the Ningde Era version, but there is no crossover, so it can be said that the performance of the blade battery version of the Model Y is brighter than the Ningde Era version throughout, and it is expected that this user may follow up with more tests, so stay tuned.

teslamag.de says the new Model Y is a step backward in a way, as Tesla currently sells only the Model Y long-range and performance versions in Europe. Technically, though, the BYD Blade battery is interesting because it is a "structure pack" according to EU approval. Tesla wanted to install this type of structured pack in the Model Y in Germany from the beginning, with the battery and chassis fused to form part of the vehicle's load-bearing structure, the latest 4680 battery pack, though Tesla's 4680 battery was repeatedly delayed, so the Chinese 2170 battery was previously used. Now, the German Model Y will use BYD Blade batteries, and compared to the 2,153 kg weight of the 60 kWh Model Y that Tesla registered in the EU last year, the new Model Y weighs 66 kg less at 2,087 kg and has a combined energy consumption down to 155 watt-hours per kilometer. In addition, a Tesla rear-wheel drive model with a smaller battery was registered in the European Union and was made public last summer. The car's battery supplier is Ningde Times, with a capacity of 60 kWh and a range of 455 km.
