Germany's ABO Wind and Tricera, along with Kyon Energy and Obton, have entered into a major partnership agreement in the deployment of energy storage systems.

German renewable energy developer ABO Wind and system integrator Tricera will jointly deploy three battery energy storage systems with a total storage capacity of 25 MWh. These energy storage projects built using automotive secondary batteries will be put into operation this year.

The three battery storage systems will be co-located with solar power facilities with a total installed capacity of 20.4 MW in Weichenried (Bavaria), Euskirchen Wüschheim (North Rhine-Westphalia), and Wald-Michelbach (Hesse). All three solar+storage projects were awarded contracts in the German Innovation Tender.

The news comes a week after ABO Wind deployed another innovative tender, this time for a 2.9MW/5.8MWh battery storage system from Rolls-Royce, co-located with a wind farm operating in Bavaria.

And while the press release about the project doesn't reveal which OEM or automaker the batteries for these battery storage systems came from, Tricera COO Lars Fallant explained in an interview with the trade press last year how the company obtained the secondary batteries. The batteries come from several automotive manufacturers, one of which makes electric forklifts.

Kyon Energy and Obton partner to deploy 600MW battery storage system

In news related to the German energy storage market, renewable energy developer Kyon Energy and Obton announced that they will deploy 600 MW of battery storage projects in Germany over the next three years.

Kyon Energy will focus on the early development of these battery storage projects, including project planning, site development, grid connection planning, building lease development, and layout design, while the two companies will jointly handle business model development and turnkey contracting through turnkey commissioning. obtain will finance these battery storage projects and operate them once the deployment is complete.

The first battery storage project developed under the cooperation framework is already in a state of readiness for construction, which is a 15.8MW/32MWh battery storage system in Tangermünde, Saxony-Anhalt.

The companies had previously consulted with energy storage system integrator Eco Stor for a total of 32.4MWh of battery storage projects commissioned last year but did not disclose the name of the technology provider delivering the 600MW project.

Osborne Clarke provided legal advice to Denmark-based Auberton in negotiating the framework agreement.
