The reporter learned from China Datang Co., Ltd. that on December 24th and 28th, two centralized electrochemical energy storage power stations, Ganhu in Tang Long and Leiyang Branch in Datang Huayin, were put into operation one after another, which will effectively reduce the impact of randomness and intermittence of new energy generation, improve the flexibility of power system, and ensure the safe operation of the power grid and the safety of users' electricity supply.

In recent years, with the deepening of China's policy and practice of implementing the "double carbon" goal, the proportion of new energy sources such as photovoltaic and wind power is constantly increasing, and the demand for flexible resources in the power system is becoming more and more urgent. As a flexible and adjustable resource, energy storage has become the best "buffer" and "shock absorber" to realize the incomplete real-time balance of energy and electricity and comprehensively and efficiently manage the outstanding problems in the new power system. Datang Leiyang Energy Storage Power Station comprises 148 battery compartments, +148 energy storage converters +74 transformers. It uses a 320Ah lithium iron phosphate battery as the carrier of chemical energy storage. When the scale is 200MW/400MW, it is the largest electrochemical energy storage project in Hunan Province.
 
Tang Long Ganhu Energy Storage Power Station adopts low-voltage similar connection technology. The single cell is a 300Ah lithium iron phosphate battery, and the energy storage system is divided into 30 energy storage units. The energy storage units are composed of an energy storage battery-energy storage converter and booster. When the scale is 100MW/200MW, the capacity of a single station ranks first in Hubei Province.
 
Regarding safety, each battery-prefabricated Datang Leiyang Energy Storage Power Station cabin is equipped with a fire alarm and linkage control system, and an automatic fire extinguishing system. The linkage control system can quickly cut off the running lithium battery complete equipment after receiving the fire alarm system's fire information to avoid expanding the influence.
 
Tang Long Ganhu Hydropower Station has designed a battery module level immersion protection+automatic explosion-proof exhaust device+perfluorohexanone automatic fire extinguishing system system sprinkler multiple progressive fire extinguishing protection system to guarantee the safety of the power station

The two energy storage power stations belong to independent energy storage projects on the grid side, focusing on peak regulation, taking into account primary frequency modulation, AGC, AVC, black start, and other functions. Peak regulation and frequency modulation of the power grid can be realized by a time shift of power, which can enhance the grid-connected capacity of renewable energy, relieve the power gap pressure in peak power consumption period, and solve the power quality control problems such as voltage drop, surge voltage, power supply interruption, voltage fluctuation, and flicker.
 
China's electrochemical energy storage is in the early stage of large-scale development, and the commissioning of two energy storage power stations will further explore the auxiliary service role of large-scale electrochemical energy storage in the power system and provide useful experience for building a new power system.
 
In addition, from the industrial chain, electrochemical energy storage can be divided into upstream battery materials, midstream energy storage systems, and integrated and downstream power system energy storage applications.
