According to foreign media reports, Matrix Renewables, a Spanish renewable energy developer, has completed financing for Gaskell 2 and Gaskell 3 solar energy+energy storage projects that are being deployed in California. These projects are in the later stage of construction.

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, HSBC, National Bank of Canada and Federal Bank provided Matrix Renewables with USD 217 million to provide construction loans, tax equity transition loans and post-leveraged term loans for these projects. In addition, Bank of America provided USD 92 million in June this year.

These projects will deploy a solar farm with a total installed capacity of 143MW and an 80MWh battery energy storage system. Public utilities in California have signed five power purchase agreements (PPAs) to purchase electricity.

Cindy Tindell, general manager of Matrix Renewables and head of American market, said: "Our team has achieved another new milestone, completing the first financing of the platform in the United States for our Gaskell solar+energy storage project. We are glad to cooperate with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, HSBC, National Bank of Canada and Federal Bank, which together provide unique financing solutions. "

In September this year, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group provided financing for the deployment of another project in the United States, and HSBC also provided financial support for the construction of solar farms this year.

Matrix Renewables recently acquired a 4.6GW utility-scale solar farm planned to be deployed in the central United States, which will be jointly developed with SolarStone Partners.

This acquisition means that Matrix Renewables will have a 7.3GW renewable energy project portfolio in North America, Latin America and Europe, while Gaskell Solar Energy+Energy Storage Project is now part of its 2.3GW renewable energy project portfolio which is operated, under construction or nearly completed.
