On August 5, it was reported that Shanghai Steel Union data shows that as of August 2, the price of battery-grade lithium carbonate had decreased by 1,000 yuan per ton compared to the previous report, with an average price of 79,500 yuan per ton, falling below the 80,000 yuan per ton mark.

Since reaching a peak of 600,000 yuan per ton in November 2022, lithium carbonate prices have been on a downward trend, and this latest price drop has once again set a new low since listing.

According to the Securities Daily and Dongchedi reports today, lithium carbonate production exhibits strong seasonal variations, with increased production in summer and reduced production in winter. The current period is the peak season for lithium carbonate production. Due to the diverse sources of lithium carbonate production, lithium salt companies find it difficult to reach a consensus on production cuts. This also suggests that there is potential for further declines in lithium carbonate prices.

As a major raw material for lithium battery production, lithium carbonate has experienced explosive growth alongside the rise of new energy vehicles. In November 2022, the price of battery-grade lithium carbonate once approached a peak of 600,000 yuan per ton. It then rapidly entered a downward channel, with the price falling to 200,000 yuan per ton by April 2023.

TrendForce's report released in July this year indicates that with the continued decline in raw material prices, battery costs have decreased again, and the prices of power cells are expected to continue to decline.
