CATL and Masdar Forge Partnership for the World Largest BESS Project
On January 17, CATL and Masdar, the UAE's leading force in clean energy, unveiled their partnership for the largest-ever "round-the-clock" giga-scale project, set to combine solar energy and battery storage in Abu Dhabi.
With an investment exceeding $6 billion, the venture will feature 5.2 GW of solar capacity and 19 GWh of energy storage. This project will be the world's largest solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), capable of providing up to 1 GW of continuous baseload power every day of the week, around the clock. It will set a new global standard for clean energy development.
Abdulaziz Alobaidli, Masdar's Chief Operating Officer, commented: "This is Masdar's largest and most ambitious project to date, and we have partnered with top-tier companies to ensure the highest quality standards throughout the process."
CATL will contribute its cutting-edge TENER technology to the project, which ensures exceptional safety, long operational life, and a high level of integration, supporting the stable and efficient operation of the entire system. The new version of this technology has enhanced protection and energy capacity, offering flexible performance across a wide range of working conditions and application scenarios, meeting the growing needs of modern energy systems.
Founded in 2006, Masdar has played a pivotal role in realizing the UAE's vision of becoming a global leader in sustainability and climate action. The company has engaged in projects across more than 40 countries, aiming to expand its renewable energy portfolio to 100 GW by 2030.
